The Drive Bender options allow you to customize how Drive Bender work with, and performs on your system.
General
Enable drive volume renaming: The volume option rename simply renames a drive when it is added to the pool. Doing this makes it easier to identify the drive.
Drive letter management: Drive letter management simply removes the drive's drive letter when the drive is added to the pool, and adds a drive letter when a drive is removed from the pool.
Manage Windows AutoPlay: Drive Bender will disable Windows AutoPlay for any drive it mount. This will prevent the AutoPlay dialog from showing (for the specific mount point) when Drive Bender starts.
Safety
Enable CRC file validation: Enabling CRC file validation provide an added degree of security by ensuring events (such as physical drive issues) do no corrupt or modify any duplicated file. Important - Disabling this option means that files are validated by file size and time stamp only. Having this option enabled ensures any duplicated files validated against the original is done using a CRC value, however this can impact the time required to validate a file.
Provisioning limit: If you have provisioning enabled on one or more mount points, this percent is used to define the minimum physical free space the pool is allowed. When this minimum is reach, a notification is generated.
Performance
Enable Smooth Stream: Enabling Smooth Stream can improve file streaming and copying performance. Important - Enabling Smooth Stream will lower the individual reads for a drive, however it will increase the memory usage. We recommend enabling this option only on systems that have issues maintaining smooth audio and / or video.
Logging level: The log level determines how much (if any) log information is collected. If you are requested to provide log files for support, you will need to set the level to Debug.
Balancing
Enable file balancing: File balancing ensures there is maximum amount of space on all drives. Note - File balancing is idle most of the time as files are balanced when copied to the pool. Important - Disabling this option can reduce the available free space on a pool utilizing duplication. However if the pool does not utilize duplication, disabling this can reduce pool overhead.
Balancing schedule: This allow a user set balancing to happen as specific intervals, or at a specific time of day. If your system is constantly changing due to file deletes, a high frequency is recommended.
Notifications
Enable Drive Bender update notifications: With the option enabled, Drive Bender will check the server for any new Drive Bender updates. If an update is found, a notification is generated.
Enable S.M.A.R.T. event notifications: This option changes how S.M.A.R.T. events are handled. In an uncheck state, no events trigger notification, checked means all events trigger notification, and an indeterminate state means each drive has its own setting. Important - Each drive can be set individually under the S.M.A.R.T option on the drives dashboard.
Enable email notifications: This option will send all Drive bender notifications to an email address (included is a typically configuration for Gmail).
SMTP host: This is the address for the SMTP server for example with Gmail use "smtp.gmail.com"
SMTP port: This is the server port used. This typically port 25, however if 465 is specified, TLS is used when connecting. For Gmail use port 465.
SMTP user name: This is the login user name. For Gmail this will be your Gmail email address, for example "someone@gmail.com"
SMTP password: This is the login password.
To Address: This is the address the notification will be sent to.
Send test message: Sends a test message.
Security
Enable security: Enabling security will allow one or more Windows users to access key Drive Bender functions. This feature uses Windows authentication to provide a secure client / server environment, and as such does not store user passwords. In addition all networking communications is encrypted using AES. See Security for more information on this feature.
License
License key: The license key supplied when Drive Bender was purchased.
Activate license: Activate your Drive Bender license.
Release license: Releases the license from the machine it is activated against (doing this de-activates the license on the server).
Advanced
Map pooled drives to mount folder: The map pooled drive option uses the Windows drive mounting feature to create mount points to the individual pooled drives. These drive mount points can be accessed via a shortcut in the the product's start menu, and allow direct access to the pooled drives. Important - Enabling this option allows the OS to access the pooled drives directly. Doing this may result in content on the pooled drives being changed unexpectedly. We recommend keeping this option disabled unless there is a specific reason to enable it.
Enable enhanced folder linking: This option improves Drive Bender folder linking support (i.e. Reparse Points). A server restart is required before this option takes effect.
Dismount mount point during drive remove or swap: This option will dismount any mount points during a drive removal or swap operation.
Drive offline action: This option allows you to specify the action taken when a drive in the pool disconnects from the pool.
Interface
Client interface style: Set the application theme. You must restart the application for this to take effect.
WHS
Hide the Getting Started tab: This hides the Getting Started tab on the Windows Home Server interface.
Show pool management options: Enabling this option with show the advanced pool management task within the Pool Management interface. Note - You need to restart the dashboard for this option to take effect.
